Rizzle Kicks gets us down with the trumpets
It’s not often I hear a song that stays bouncing around in my head for days, but the latest single from hip hop pop duo, Rizzle Kicks, has been a non mover. ‘Down with the trumpets’ only hit the charts last week, but it has already become a national radio favourite.
Hailing from Brighton, rapper Jordan Stephens and singer Harley Alexander-Sule have a very unique quality to their songs and performances; describing their sound as ‘Indie-hop with added elements of grime’. Rapping witty, cheeky lyrics over tunes from Lily Allen to The White Stripes, there really is no denying the 19 year old duo’s extraordinary depth of talent.
The lads recently played to a sell out crowd at the Camden Barfly and the atmosphere was simply electric. Jumping around on stage in funky shirts, Rizzle Kicks showed off their moves and their smiles, interacting with the crowd as though they had been performing for years. Opening with the Inspector Gadget theme tune, the boys showed how versatile they really can be, covering songs such as Jessie J’s Price Tag and the classic Bond theme.
Scheduled to support the likes of Dizzee Rascal at this month’s Mallorca and Ibiza rocks, and Devlin and Giggs at August’s Underage Festival, Rizzle Kicks are fast making their mark on the music scene. They are currently putting the finishing touches to their debut album, and the next single, Mama Do The Hump (produced by Fatboy Slim) will no doubt create a media storm once again.
